32 Weeks

Aren’t these the most adorable little feet?  Nothing is cuter than chubby little baby feet attached to those chubby little baby ankles.  Even the chubby little tops of their feet are cute too.  (Hannah’s feet, by the way.)

Unfortunately, while it may be cute on babies, it is definitely not cute on feet that are all grown up.  Good thing flip flop weather arrived early this year, since nothing else fits my chubby, not-so-little, not-so-cute feet these days.

I was hoping that last week was a fluke, as ankles that disappear by noon and sausage toes are not pregnancy symptoms I’m accustomed to dealing with.  But I’d better get used to it, because it’s become obvious they’re here to stay—for an anticipated 8 more weeks.

I’ve had a handful of odd (for me) symptoms this time around, but thankfully other of my familiar, bothersome pregnancy symptoms have been strangely absent.  Overall, I’ve come out on the good end of the symptom swap, so I’m definitely not complaining.

But . . .

lying around with my feet up is not my idea of a good time, as I much prefer to be up and doing.  But by the end of the day and (often mid-afternoon,) the pain gives me no choice.  Ice and elevation are my comforting companions.

So, any ideas for what I should do while I’m lounging my way through this beautiful spring?  Besides bon bons and classical music, I mean?  Oh, and moaning softly and asking everyone to do things for me?

It’s no fun to be nudged into circumstances beyond our control, even in the minor things like this, as it’s kind of interfered with my to-do lists, you know?  But it’s another reminder that we’re not really in control as much as we tend to think we are (or sometimes wish we could be,) isn’t it?

But on the bright side . . . the reward of living with my chubby, not-so-little, not-so-cute feet will be getting to see another pair of feet soon—the chubby, little, cute kind.

And we can’t wait.

  1. You could read a good book, or just take a nap. you could knit or do some hand sewing…
just enjoy the birds singing and the sun warming you…. so many things you can do while just “sitting”!!! praying you have a good 8 weeks. :)

  2. I feel for you!! I wore TED hose (a post-surgical heavy nylon stocking) on one leg for several months of the last 3 pregnancies and that helped a lot. They’re rather hot, but kept the swelling down and avoided a lot of pain. I had to wear them for enormous varicose veins that caused my whole shin and ankle to swell and burn, plus I had some in my thigh so I had to wear the thigh-high one. You could probably get away with the knee-high ones if it’s just your ankles. They’re available by prescription, so you’ll have to talk to your midwife/doctor. Also, don’t wear socks that cut off your circulation when your ankles swell. If any of your socks still fit, that is!

Here’s a thought–relax while you have eager helpers! I know that isn’t in your nature, but…you’ll be busier than ever soon enough. And maybe they’ll get so used to doing some of your work now that they’ll continue smoothly when Baby comes. (Boy or girl?–I must’ve missed the gender announcement.) I’ll pray for you!

    • Thanks for sharing, Amy. Haven’t worn socks in weeks, so I’m thankful for an early spring and no cold feet. TED hose would drive me mad, I’m certain. Oh my, can’t imagine how you did the thigh-high kind. I know, the lesser of two evils for you. I’m going to try and avoid that as long as possible.

The kids do have a lot of chores, but I’ve upped them. I told them I don’t want any part of the household shutting down in case I do. :)

No gender announcement, because we don’t know (although it would have been very helpful this time!) Unfortunately, the cord position allowed for less than optimal viewing.

  3. Im in sorta the same boat with the adrenal fatigue! For the first time ever I will make a phone call to someone instead of sending a quick email. I love to get the littles around me with their school books, and I finally have a bit of time to do geneology! So happy for you all! Blessings!

  4. Praying for you, Jill, as you move even closer to your due date now! We’re very excited for you and your family as you welcome another little blessing!
