I’ve been playing with the girls’ hair some more and recently came up with this fun new “do” to share with you.
Begin with a simple pony tail, secured with an elastic band.
It seems to me that somebody somewhere sells a little tool to make this next step easier, but it works just fine using your fingers too. You’ll want to divide the hair in half vertically between the scalp and the elastic. I wiggle a finger down through the middle to create a space.
Next flip the pony tail up and into that space you just created, then pull it down and clear through. To make things easier, I twist the hair in the pony before pushing it through the hole; that helps it not get tangled with the rest.
There is probably a name for this style that’s created, but if so, I don’t know what it is. It’s cute all by itself. Or you could dress it up with a flexi-clip.
But Hannah’s hair is a great length to add another step, giving her a cute little flip-do, which looks especially sweet with the popular “Crown of Hearts” flexi-clip she’s modeling. With her baby-fine hair, she wears a size mini.
Just flip the hair up and clip into place, letting the wispy ends fall where they may.
We love the little pink danglie in the middle! Or as Elisabeth calls it—the “hangie-downer.”

I use to have a tool to do that flip. Not sure what it was called. It was basically a long plastic stick with a big loop on the end. You placed the end of the pony tail in the loop, stuck the stick end down between the scalp and the elastic, and pulled it through. I had the tool long before I had children. I should see if I still have it.
That’s just what I was picturing. I think I must have seen an infomercial for them about 2 decades ago.
I had the tool too, when I was a little girl! I think mine broke… but I’ve found that my fingers work just as well
Hannah’s hair looks cute like that! I can’t wait until Fiona’s hair gets longer AND she doesn’t pull anything I put in her hair out!
Elisabeth STILL pulls things out of her hair. She always wants me to fix it up for her, but 5 minutes later she takes out her flexi.
I used to do the first step a lot, but never thought to flip it up–I love it! I can’t do it on my own hair, now shorter and curly, but I think Abby will like it. Thanks for the idea!
Amy, your hair is shorter and curly? I can’t picture you that way. I think I’ve only ever seen you with long, straight hair. Have fun playing with Abby’s.
I love it- how pretty! I’ll have to give this a try
Thanks, Quinn. I never had so much fun with hair until I had daughters.
Cute! Those are very beautiful clips!
That tool is called a Topsy Tail, and you can get one on amazon!
Thanks, Abby! Now we know.
This is so very pretty and seems simple enough. I had only one daughter, so it was not very time consuming to do her hair, but she did have the fine hair Hannah has. Those mini clips are great!
Thank you for sharing at Deep Roots At Home; I hope you will be a regular contributor.
I often use this style on my girls. Beautiful.
I love your daughter’s hair-doo.
I have long hair and I’m inspired to give this a try.
Thanks.

That is SUPER CUTE! Thanks for sharing. My daughter has done the the first part of flipping her pony tail that way but never thought of clipping the end up like that! We both may have to try this later!
